Podcast: October’s monthly market update

In October’s monthly market update podcast we look how the recovery is taking hold in both the retail and London offices market.

Local Data Company director Matthew Hopkinson says that consumers were still being price conscious, and are being attracted to the likes of Aldi and Lidl, which have both posted strong results in the last few weeks, because they can offer different product ranges and lines.

Hopkinson also predicts that the budget supermarkets will keep growing. And that the top four supermarkets should be concerned about their potential expansion.

Meanwhile, Hopkinson believes that there is “light at the end of the tunnel” for the retail sector. And, he added that while the Christmas trading figures are still important, for retailers “it’s a fight for survival 12 months of the year”.

In London offices, Q3 has been a bumper year. More deals were signed in the year so far in London offices than in the whole of 2012.

Two mega deals skewed this quarter’s total but even stripping them out the southern fringe has had a impressive three months.

EG’s City Editor Jack Sidders talks to EG’s head of London Offices Research Tom Pilkington to find out what’s behind the figures.
