MIPIM-UK-2014-logo-THUMB.gifTime to get prepared for MIPIM UK

MIPIM UK, the largest property conference on our shores, is just two months away. For the more than 4,500 delegates expected at Olympia London between 21 and 23 October, it will be a choc-full three days. Keynote presentations will come from architect supremo Zaha Hadid and trade and investment minister Francis Maude.

And for the first time there will be a dedicated London exhibition zone featuring the first interactive 3D digital model of London.

Also new this year is a start-up competition that gives young companies an opportunity to meet potential business partners and investors.

Estates Gazette will be supporting the debate programme with a line-up of top-flight speakers who will take part in a number of debates. The speakers include Chicago-based Wayne Vandenburg, founding partner of volume private rented sector operator TVO Groupe; Derwent London’s John Burns; and Atlantic Gateway executive director Carmel Booth.

And to keep up the momentum between sessions, Estates Gazette will publish several publications that show-goers can get their hands on before everyone else. Our Rich List; a special Top 50 Collaborators publication; EG London; UK, Global and London Investor Guides; and an Industrial supplement will available on magazine racks around the venue.

And because it is impossible to be everywhere at once, we will also be producing three daily official show magazines to keep you up to date with all the news and gossip from the event, including data from the show’s research partners BNP Paribas Real Estate and JLL. Keep an eye on EG for further announcements.

Valad execs’ fall colours

Valad Europe’s executive chairman Martyn McCarthy and managing director David Kirkby are aiming to throw themselves out of a plane in an effort to raise money for CLIC Sargent, a charity for children and young people with cancer.

The pair of Aussies are planning to do the jump on 2 September wearing Australian rugby tops ahead of next month’s Rugby World Cup. However, if they raise more than their £5,000 target, they have promised to make the task even more frightful by donning England colours.

They will be jumping as part of the City Flyers team, which is being organised by Shela Maine, managing director and  head of commercial real estate loan servicing at Lloyds.

City Flyers will be doing the skydive with the Red Devils, the official parachute display team for the Parachute Regiment of the British army.

Principia’s descent raises charity cash

Principia Estate and Asset Management has gone to great heights to support charity.

Its staff bounded their way down from the top of the City’s Broadgate tower – that’s 541ft – in a fundraising challenge for male cancer charity Orchid earlier this year.

However, the daredevils will not be stopping there: plans to skydive and cycle through the New Forest are in the works and the firm, part of the Farrar Group, hopes to top up the £17,000 pot collected so far. Find out more at www.principialondon.co.uk/charity

Thomann-Hanry team go the distance

Building restoration firm Thomann-Hanry sent seven runners charging through the countryside in a charity run.

The runners set off from the Old Palace Pub in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, and covered a 10km route around the outskirts of the town before returning to the boozer for a well-earned drink on 14 August.

They raised more than £1,000 for the Exmouth and Lympstone hospice.
