Every now and again a surveyor goes a little nuts and decides to take their physical and mental toughness to the brink of bonkersville. Most of the time, charity wins – so who’s to complain?
Meet Kerry Northfold. The estates manager at Arcadia Group has committed to undertaking 12 challenges in 2014 (one each month) that mostly test her severe fear of heights.
In operation Challenge Kerry, she has so far zip-wired at 100mph over a disused quarry, completed a 22-mile swim (the same distance as the English Channel), taken part in the Moonwalk (a colourful, night-time marathon-distance walk for women) and climbed the O2 Arena.
Challenges to come include the London to Brighton bike ride and the Great North Run, to name just two. She will wrap up the 12-month challenge with the 2015 London Marathon.
Three charities will benefit from Kerry’s determination: Diabetes UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Headfirst. She chose all of them as a result of their direct impact on her family and friends.
And the Arcadia gang do not get off lightly, either. As part of the October challenge, Northfold is dragging the estates team with her to take part in the gruelling Spartan Race obstacle course in South London.
