One of BlackRock’s top sustainability executives has taken over as chair of the British Property Federation’s Sustainability Committee.
Katherine Sherwin, global head of real assets and sustainable investing at BlackRock, will take over chairing the 34-strong committee from Richard Quartermaine, environmental manager at Hammerson.
In turn, she will be replaced as vice-chair by Mat Lown, partner and head of ESG and sustainability at consultancy TFT.
Sherwin will lead and co-ordinate the BPF’s work on tackling climate change, including activities around green finance and retrofitting assets.
Sherwin said: “Property is one of the largest contributors of greenhouse gas emissions in the UK, which means that the BPF and the wider real estate sector have a critical role to play in tackling climate change and delivering on the government’s net-zero targets.”
