British Land embraces docklands heritage for Canada Water offices

British Land has revealed fresh details of the two commercial buildings at the heart of phase one of its Canada Water redevelopment, E16.

The Dock Shed, known in the planning stages simply as “A2”, will be what British Land calls a “21st century warehouse” inspired by the site’s historic timber sheds. It will include 182,000 sq ft of net zero carbon workspace, designed by Allies & Morrison, a dockside terrace on every floor and facilities including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall, and dance and spin studios.

The A1 building will be known as Three Deal Porters, named for its address at 3 Deal Porters Way. Deal porters unloaded, carried and stacked the timber, or deal, during Canada Water’s time at the centre of London’s timber trade. The building, again designed by Allies & Morrison, will include 120,000 sq ft of workspace.
