Britishvolt loses spark as administrators appointed

The assets of UK battery start-up Britishvolt could be put up for sale following its collapse into administration.

Sites where a £3.8bn gigafactory and £200m battery scale-up factory were set to be built could be brought the market.

EY was appointed as administrator to the firm, which had hoped to build the gigafactory in Blyth and had partnered with Prologis to develop at £200m battery scale-up facility at its Prologis Park Hams Hall (pictured), to the north-east of Birmingham, on Tuesday afternoon.

Joint administrators Dan Hurd, Jo Robinson and Alan Hudson said: “The company has entered into administration due to insufficient equity investment for both the ongoing research it was undertaking and the development of its sites in the Midlands and the North East of England.”

They added: “The joint administrators are assessing the options for realising the potential value in the business and assets of the company, including intellectual property and R&D assets, for the benefit of creditors.”
