Brookfield reveals growth plans with the launch of ARC

Brookfield has launched Advanced Research Clusters, a science and technology real estate platform which aims to bring organisations together in “unique ecosystems” that stimulate innovation to accelerate commercial growth.

Current members of ARC include Oxford Biomedica, Perspectum and Oxford Nanopore.

Brookfield has worked alongside CoreLife Investors over the past two years to build the ARC platform.

ARC’s portfolio consists of 1.6m sq ft of existing assets and 5m sq ft of development potential across the UK’s Golden Triangle. It includes Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, in which Brookfield bought a 50% stake in 2020 and Arlington assets acquired last year.

Stuart Grant, chief executive of ARC and co-founder of CoreLife Investors, said: “With demand for science lab space outstripping supply it is easy for real estate organisations to become complacent. We have listened to our members and have responded to their needs, creating a platform that is an authentic partner to science and innovation.”

ARC has plans for further growth across the UK and Europe and is in talks on several potential new sites.

The move comes as some of the world’s biggest property investors are planning to spend billions of pounds on labs and offices for the booming life sciences sector.
