Abstract Land’s plans for more than 600,000 sq ft of commercial development at Cambridge International Technology Park have been thrown out by the council.
The plans, first submitted in February, have been refused due to “unacceptable traffic impacts which will exacerbate existing congestion in the local and wider areas” and “unacceptable impacts” on the surround green belt and landscape due to its scale and massing.
The plans are for around 608,000 sq ft office, lab and data centre space.
The Cambridge International Technology Park on Fulbourn Road is envisaged as a £500m scheme, and the largest new science park in the city for a number of years.
Abstract first bought a 9.2-acre slice of the land in July 2020 and had planned to build 300,000 sq ft of office and car parking on it. Earlier this year it bought a further 15.3 acres to expand the development.
