Camden council has approved plans from Crosstree Real Estate Partners to convert the local authority’s former Town Hall annexe, WC1, into a hotel.
Crosstree – which purchased the site in 2014 – is partnering with US hotelier André Balazs to convert the vacant office block into a 270-bedroom hotel under the Standard brand, which currently operates in New York.
The brutalist block was built in the 1970s to serve as an administrative office for the council and a library.
Alongside a two-storey extension to replace the existing plant room, Crosstree has drawn up plans to create new shops at ground level and improve the public realm.
Work will start on the Orms-designed scheme this year and is expected to take two years. GVA advised.
