LaSalle Investment Management and Trilogy Real Estate have secured De Montfort University as a new tenant at the Amp, their 135,000 sq ft education campus in Aldgate, E1.
De Montfort has agreed to take around 17,000 sq ft in the building and joins the London College of Contemporary Arts, which in January signed a deal to occupy 37,000 sq ft. Nottingham Trent University’s Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies and Access Creative College are also tenants, occupying 55,000 sq ft.
The Amp will become a new campus in London for Leicester-based university De Montfort and will be used to train leaders in sustainable business practice.
De Montfort’s vice chancellor Katie Normington said: “This expansion marks a pivotal moment for DMU as we reinforce our commitment to sustainability and educational innovation.
“For the first time, all staff at the new campus will undergo sustainability training and carbon literacy will be integrated into the core curriculum for all students.”
Just over 25,000 sq ft of space remains available in the building – circa 18,000 sq ft on the fifth floor and 7.400 sq ft on part of the second floor.
According to EG Radius Data, achieved rents in the building are around £56 per sq ft.
LaSalle and Trilogy acquired the former London Metropolitan University site at 41-71 Commercial Road from the Department for Education in a sale advised by the government-owned property company LocatED in 2022.
The Amp provides specialist facilities, including recording studios, performance space and an arena for gaming and esports. It holds BREEAM Excellent and EPC B ratings.
Allsop is letting agent on the Amp; Metric RE advised De Montfort.
