Dexters boss pushes back against ‘unfair allegations’ of staff treatment

The founder of estate agency Dexters has claimed criticism of the firm is “unfair” after it was slammed on social media for encouraging staff to travel to work during the nationwide lockdown.

Staff at the estate agency are now working from home after the company came under attack on social media for having employees travel to its offices during the lockdown.

The firm said its 100 branches are now fully closed and almost all of its 1,500 staff are working remotely. It added that 5% of staff “critical for the survival of the business” are working from “two secure premises”, without giving further details.

Dexters had closed its offices to the public a week ago but some employees were still working in them. The decision came in for fierce criticism on social media. Chairman and founder Jeff Doble said the criticisms were misguided and that it had been following government advice throughout.

He said: “Dexters has been the subject of misinformation started on social media which has ended up with wider reporting, resulting in deeply unfair allegations. We are a responsible business and a respected firm of chartered surveyors and Dexters has followed government Covid-19 guidelines to the absolute letter.”
