An £800,000 boost for Dundee Football Club suffered a PR knock after its prospective saviour was reported to count Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein among this friends.
Giovanni Di Stefano, an Anglo-Italian businessman, met the Iraqi leader last year in Baghdad. He said: “Such is the nature of political life”.
The club cannot afford the £2.5m investment needed to upgrade its Dens Park ground to meet league criteria without Di Stefano’s help.
