EG debate: Where do the best investment opportunities lie in the UK?

EXPO REAL: European investors will find out where the best investment opportunities in the UK lie at an Estates Gazette debate today (Tuesday).

Some of the most informed and influential people in the UK market will come together at the Munich property fair to debate where investors can make the best returns in a hot market.

The debate – Investing in the UK: Where is there growth in a market rich with opportunities – features Manchester council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein and Chris Taylor, head of private markets and chief executive of Hermes Real Estate.

The UK property market has proven itself one of the safest havens in the world for investors’ money but in a market that has already delivered for investors, panellists will explain where the future opportunities lie.

The debate is being held in association with the British Property Federation, Bilfinger GVA, the Regeneration Investment Organisation, CRS and Hogan Lovells and is free for all Expo delegates to attend.

It follows an exclusive business breakfast, hosted by the BPF, Bilfinger GVA and Estates Gazette, which will bring together some of the biggest investors in Europe.

The UK will come under the spotlight again on Wednesday along with Germany and more of Europe’s most active markets at the latest Estates Gazette Global Real Estate Debate, held in association with Bilfinger GVA.

Also being held at Expo Real, the debate asks “How can Europe stay ahead of the US and Asia?”

Among the panellists are some of property’s big hitters, including BlackRock European portfolio manager Thomas Mueller and Andy Watson, chief investment officer for Europe at LaSalle Investment Management.

With the ever-advancing markets of Asia, the powerhouse economy of the US and the diverse cities of Europe all vying for the attention of investors looking to put their money to work, this debate will reveal what Germany and the UK have to offer.

Hosted by Estates Gazette

Expo Real, Messe Munchen, Hall: A1, Stand: 040

Synopsis

The competition for investment is very much a global one. The ever-advancing markets of Asia, the powerhouse economy of the US and the diverse cities of Europe are all vying for the attention of investors looking to put their money to work.

But what does Europe – and in particular its leading markets of Germany and the UK – need to do to ensure it makes the most compelling case today and in the years to come?

The UK has courted foreign investors with great success, as has Germany. What do the two markets have in common? How can they ensure that geopolitical issues, and the economic woes of their European neighbours, do not dent investor confidence?

In this debate, experts from some of the world’s most prolific funds and fund managers will identify from which parts of the globe capital is coming, where it is going and, most importantly, why.

Which sub-markets are hot and which are not? And how will this picture change in over this cycle?

Andy Watson, chief investment officer for continental Europe., LaSalle Investment Management
