You’ll see fundamental changes to EG magazine next week, as we seek to further reduce our environmental impact.
Our 7 March edition will be the first EG in a new size, an 18.5% reduction on our existing dimensions. The changes will cut our paper usage by around 20 tonnes a year.
We will be going further on sustainability in the weeks that follow by reducing our plastic consumption too. By the summer we plan to have cut our use of plastic wrapping on subscriber issues by 75%. A minority of issues will be distributed to subscribers in a poly bag, containing supplements and inserts. The majority, however, will be mailed “naked”, with no plastic packaging at all.
The look of EG, as well as the feel, will change for the better too. Our design team has been working to freshen up the design and to ensure that space is maximised with minimal loss of content on each page. Our supplements – Global Cities, Retail, Leisure & Logistics, Tech and UK Cities will also be resized and redesigned too.
This new design will ensure readers continue to benefit from the best news, analysis, interviews, comment and insight in the business, delivered by EG’s award-winning content team.
Publisher Damian Wild says: “EG has been leading from the front as the real estate industry looks to change tack on tech, talent, wellbeing and sustainability. As well as providing data, news and analysis on this revolution, we also want to be a trusted platform for advice. To do so credibly we need to practice what we preach, which is why we are continually looking for ways to reduce our own environmental footprint.”
What else is EG doing?
• As well as reducing the environmental impact of the magazine, we are investing in improving the digital experience for subscribers. A new App will launch in the coming weeks. Currently the EG App offers only a weekly recap; the new App will contain daily updates, delivering magazine content and more before the weekly edition lands.
• On events we are moving to digital programmes, with only a limited number available in print. We are also phasing out pre-printed badges to reduce waste and using locally sourced food where possible.
• EG is also pushing all our venues to have in place a sustainability pledge of their own. And our Sustainability Live event on 22 April is being held at London’s most sustainable venue. Click here for more details.
