Frazer confirmed as new housing minister

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has confirmed Lucy Frazer is the new housing minister.

Frazer is the fifth housing minister this year. She takes over the housing portfolio from Lee Rowley, who last week said he had become local government minister. Rowley now has the distinction of being the shortest-serving housing minister in history.

Frazer was previously tipped to take over the housing brief. She was brought in by returning levelling up secretary Michael Gove as minister of state, following his reappointment last month.

Frazer, who is the MP for South East Cambridgeshire, was made a QC in 2013 and was previously solicitor general for England and Wales. Other roles in government include a stint as treasury minister and minister for prisons, and the position of transport minister in the short-lived Liz Truss administration.
