GLA initiative appoints Vivienne King as ambassador

Greater London Authority network Property X-Change has appointed real estate social impact expert Vivienne King as ambassador.

In her role as ambassador, King will find forward-thinking owners, asset managers and developers to join the initiative, which aims to rethink how high street properties can deliver social value.

Property X-Change was set up by the GLA and founding partners last year as a platform to share ideas and promote under-represented voices across the property sector.

Founding partners include the mayor of London, London Councils, Transport for London, British Property Federation, Business LDN, Federation of Small Businesses, Cross River Partnership and Guardians of the Arches.

King was previously head of Revo and Soho Housing, before becoming head of real estate at social impact advisory firm The Good Economy.

Deputy mayor of London Jules Pipe said: “Property X-Change is part of the mayor’s commitment to sustainable high street and town centre regeneration across London. Our high streets have faced many challenges over the last few years, including a reduction in footfall and the financial squeeze on retailers and shoppers.

“Vivienne’s involvement and experience will be invaluable to the growth of Property X-Change, enabling social impact businesses and underrepresented talent to bring fresh ideas that will shape the future of high streets across the capital.”

King said: “The work already done by the GLA and its partners has made Property X-Change into a rare and important tool – a way for us all to address social impact in ESG strategies.

“Being appointed ambassador is an opportunity to grow this initiative and support a drive for real and sustained success. I believe that by connecting the interests of those emotionally and financially invested in our high streets and overriding the silos that get in the way of creative dialogue, we can work together explore new ways to deliver social value through high street investment.

“I hope we can get to a place where everyone wins – investors see sustainable activity, operators successful businesses and residents share in the benefits of activity that supports their communities. In short, vibrant and inclusive high streets can emerge. If you are working to this agenda and want to share a pioneering approach, we want to hear from you.”
