Greggs expects 2023 to be “a record year” for new store openings.

The steak bake seller opened 144 stores over the year to date, while closing 62, giving a net increase of 82. It currently has a total of 2,410 in its portfolio.

In a trading update this morning, the pastry purveyor said it expected a net increase of between 135 and 145 outlets, with a “strong pipeline” in place for 2024.

Greggs said sales for Q3 were up 20%. It added that it expects capital expenditure to be around £200m for the year.
