Investment into UK outstrips Brit buys abroad

Foreign investment into the UK outstripped British investment abroad last year, for only the second time on record. Figures on the UK’s net investment position revealed a £112bn deficit, the largest recorded in history. The stock of investment made in the UK from abroad increased by £128bn to £1.52trn last year, while outward investment by UK companies increased by only £39.6bn to £1.41trn. The rise also shows a change in who the investors are. While investment from Europe fell by £12.3bn, US investment rose by £64.1bn. The Times (£)
