Linden Hill files plans for Birmingham office-to-PBSA scheme

Asset manager Linden Hill has submitted plans for the conversion of Maple House in Birmingham city centre to a 383-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme.

The proposals involve a major retrofit and refurbishment that will see the existing five-storey structure extended to 10 storeys to provide 207 en suite studios and 176 beds in clusters of six, seven and 10.

Facilities will include 164 bicycle parking spaces, a retained basement car park, study areas, a communal dining hall, a games room and a gym.

Maple House, situated at 150 Corporation Street, is an office building originally built in the 1960s and significantly reworked in the 1990s, which includes some ground-floor retail space. Current occupiers include Tesco, Siemens and ETC Venues.

Lambert Smith Hampton is advising Linden Hill on planning and public consultation. Antony Harding, director in LSH’s planning team, said: “The mix of uses across UK town and city centres is constantly evolving, and repurposing existing stock is a vital part of delivering sustainable urban communities.

“This scheme promises to bring a tired building back into contemporary use and will provide vital new accommodation for Birmingham’s growing student community while responding to Birmingham City Council’s recently approved Our Future City: Central Birmingham Framework 2045.”
