Liverpool student block and housing association scheme get go-ahead

Liverpool Council has given planning permission for the development of a student block in the city centre, as well as a new neighbourhood in the suburb of Speke.

The decision was made during a planning committee meeting earlier today.

Proposals for the student homes have been brought forward by retailer TJ Morris, which is set to kick off work shortly on a partially five-, six- and seven-storey building providing 250 student bedrooms, alongside an on-site gym, cinema, study spaces, and laundry facilities, totalling 10,882 sq ft.

The ground floor will include one of the firm’s Home Bargains stores, and provide 70 cycle storage spaces.

The building will sit on Audley and Kempston Street in the Fabric District which forms part of Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, where there is high demand for student accommodation.

The scheme was designed by Falconer Chester Hall Architects, with Zerum advising on planning matters. Caro Developments will be responsible for the delivery and operation of the scheme.

Housing association South Liverpool Homes will deliver 92 homes along South Parade and Conleach Road in Speke after securing planning consent at the same meeting.

The neighbourhood, designed by Halsall Lloyd Partnership, comprises 51 two-storey houses, a block of 35 flats and six wheelchair-adaptable bungalows.

The proposals also include the provision of a new public open space, communal parking areas and private amenity spaces.
