Market wrap: Risers rare as FTSE heads back downwards

Having risen to the relatively giddy heights of above 6,100 points yesterday, the FTSE 100 fell back today, ending the session 3.5% lower at 5,901.

Across the broader FTSE All-Share, only a handful of REITs saw their shares trading up. Among the few to post gains, the most notable increase was for BMO Commercial Property Trust, up almost 6% at 76.3p.

Shaftesbury saw the sharpest fall – down roughly 6.5% at 600p.

Away from the REITs, there was a 7% rise from Countrywide. The estate agency gave a reasonably resilient stock market update today – and despite not being in a position to shed light on a sale of Lambert Smith Hampton, is said still to be committed to offloading the business.
