McCarthy & Stone partners with Anchor Hanover on £125m portfolio

McCarthy & Stone has teamed up with non-profit care provider Anchor Hanover on a £125m portfolio of 482 retirement homes.

Anchor Hanover will pay £67m for 316 affordable extra care homes, of these 124 will be affordable rented and 192 shared ownership. A further 166 flats on neighbouring land will be for sale.

The homes will span five sites. Two scheme in Hook, Hampshire and Hinkley in Leiceistershire are about to start construction, with two schemes in Bingley, West Yorkshire and Standish, Greater Manchester to commence in early 2021. A final scheme in Macclesfield, Cheshire will begin in late 2021.

John Tonkiss, chief executive at McCarthy & Stone, said: “Now more than ever we need to better align adult social care policy with high-quality and ‘affordable for all’ retirement community solutions.

“This partnership is in addition to our current construction plans and forms part of our strategy to provide greater choice for customers, with different tenure options across the affordability spectrum.”

Jane Ashcroft CBE, chief executive at Anchor Hanover, said: “We have ambitious plans to provide more homes where people love living in later life and to do so more quickly. We are keen to work with a range of partners to meet that demand and support the government’s objective of more accessible housing for older people.”
