Public backlash prompts ticket office closure U-turn

Hundreds of railway ticket offices across England are to remain open after an unprecedented backlash against the plans.

The Department for Transport confirmed that train operators had been told to withdraw their plans to close more than 870 booking offices.

The move follows the outcome of a major consultation on the planned changes that attracted more than 750,000 responses, the biggest ever response to a public consultation, with 99% opposing.
