Reform planning to create better playgrounds, MPs told

Outside play areas must be given more of an emphasis, charities have told MPs.

At the start of a Commons inquiry into how better planning could enhance the wellbeing of children, charities including Playing Out, Save the Children UK and Wildlife and Countryside Link have said urgent change is needed.

They criticised traffic-dominated neighbourhoods, poorly-designed housing developments and a lack of decent green spaces, as well as “no ball games” areas, for restricting children’s access to outdoor play, physical activity and green space.
