Socius and Aviva have revised plans for their £1.2bn London Cancer Hub in response to the first round of consultations on the project.
The 1.1m sq ft scheme will deliver labs, research and commercial facilities to accelerate the development of cancer treatments.
The jv has been working alongside the London Borough of Sutton, the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and the Institute of Cancer Research to create a multi-phase scheme at the 12-acre site.
The first round of community consultations was launched in March this year. After calls for nature-rich, bio-diverse spaces and for more opportunities for social impact, the proposals will now include community spaces for classes, workshops and events as well as a food hall. Socius has also teamed up with Social Sports Society to deliver padel tennis courts at the scheme and will submit a planning application later this month.
Under the final round of engagement, local people will be provided with detailed information about the first phase of the scheme and CGI images, as well as information about proposed improvements to the local transport network, amenities and sustainability.
Aviva and Socius will review the feedback gathered before submitting a planning application to Sutton Council in early 2025.
Daniel May, development director at Socius, said: “We have listened to the feedback previously shared and believe that these updated proposals deliver a place that local people can benefit from, while providing a world-class research facility that will put Sutton on the map.”
Sophie White, sector head for regeneration at Aviva, said: “This project is a unique opportunity to build a world-class research facility that will create a lasting positive impact for the Sutton community.”
