Unite hunts for new development schemes

Student accommodation operator Unite Students is on the hunt for new schemes. The company is already committed to four development projects and said it expects to commit to further sites this year.

Chief executive Richard Smith said: “The supply of purpose-built student accommodation cannot keep pace with growing student demand at the same time as HMO landlords are leaving the sector. We are therefore tracking a number of new development opportunities at attractive returns, which we are uniquely positioned to deliver through our university relationships and development capability. “

In a trading update, the company said the values of its two funds have held steady. The value of its Unite UK Student Accommodation Fund Quarterly stood at £2.9bn, unchanged over the first quarter, while the value of the London Student Accommodation Joint Venture dipped by 0.1% to £1.9bn.
