Van Hoogstraten sacks legal team and hires Italian lawyer

Property tycoon Nicholas van Hoogstraten has won a High Court ruling allowing him to hire a controversial lawyer.

Giovanni di Stefano visited van Hoogstraten at Belmarsh Prison before the governor banned urther visits after Van Hoogstraten was found guilty of manslaughter at the Old Bailey in July.

However, Mr Justice Jackson said van Hoogstratens human rights had been infringed and that the Brighton-based entrepreneur was free to choose di Stefano as his lawyer before his sentencing on 2 October.

Di Stefano has previously represented Serbian warlord Arkan and timeshare fraudster John “Goldfinger” Palmer.

Meanwhile, van Hoogstraten has sacked the legal team who represented him at the 13-week trial into the murder of landlord Mohammed Raja in July, 1999.
