Wal-Mart Stores will open its first purpose-built Asda Wal-Mart Supercentre in the UK this year.
The 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) outlet will open in Haydon, Swindon, in December.
It is one of 13 that its UK Asda subsidiary plans to open this year, totalling 55,740 sq m (600,000 sq ft) at a cost of £450m. They include nine new stores and four rebuilds or re-sites. It will be the third to carry the Wal-Mart name. The company will also open a distribution warehouse in Bedford.
