Louise Wyman is to step down from Manchester City Council at the end of April.
Wyman joined the council as strategic director of development last June, overseeing planning and housing strategy. She left her previous role on Homes England’s senior leadership team to lead the city’s response to the Covid pandemic and economic recovery.
She is leaving the role to be closer to her family in the Midlands and said the position should be held by someone present and active in the city.
Wyman said: “I am proud of the plans we have put in place, with partners across the city, to drive Manchester’s economic recovery and secure future investment. Despite the challenges of working through a pandemic, we have continued to drive transformational projects.”
During her tenure Manchester has progressed major regenerations including Victoria North, Mayfield, Eastern Gateway and the new arena.
“A clear transition plan to bring our ALMO Northwards back into the council in July 2021 is now in place. Real progress is also under way to decarbonise our corporate estate to meet our zero-carbon ambitions,” said Wyman.
“Manchester’s property market has shown true resilience over the past year and with robust plans in place, the city is well positioned to recover from Covid-19.”
Manchester City Council leader Richard Leese said: “Louise’s legacy from her albeit brief tenure at Manchester City Council will be felt for years to come, as we embrace her economic recovery plans that will help ensure the city’s success beyond the pandemic.”
