The Future of UK Cities
3-5 November 2020
The growing impact of 21st century crises – from climate change, to global pandemics and economic collapse – is putting stress on our cities.
Cities have a unique role and a powerful opportunity to shape the future. They account for more than 60% of global energy use and more than 70% of global greenhouse emissions. Real estate’s contribution to energy use and CO2 emissions are well known and businesses have started to take action. But it's time for collaboration. It's time for cities and the nation to come together to make the world a better place. And real estate has an essential role to play in driving that action.
Our cities need to survive as they have the opportunity to create societies and economies that are protected from these crises. But they need real estate and the built environment to do that.
Over the course of EG’s Future of UK Cities week, we brought together economists, city leaders, investors, developers, occupiers, sociologists and more to discuss, debate, showcase and deliver solutions for our cities to not just survive but to thrive and to become true world leaders in being home to thriving people, thriving businesses and thriving places, while respecting the wellbeing of all people and the health of the whole planet.
